Telehealth Consent Policy

At Authentic Self Psychology, we offer online video (telehealth) appointments as a flexible option for ongoing care. We are committed to providing a safe, secure, and affirming environment – whether we meet in person or via screen.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is a way of delivering psychological support using secure video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom Telehealth Pro via Zanda Health). It can help reduce travel, offer greater accessibility, and maintain therapeutic connection even when attending in person isn’t possible.

Benefits

  • Continued access to your psychologist during illness, travel, or limited mobility

  • Flexibility for clients living remotely or balancing competing responsibilities

  • Option to engage from a familiar, comfortable environment

  • Neurodivergent-friendly adjustments (e.g., camera off, closed captioning)

Limitations & Risks

  • Technology issues (e.g., internet outages) may disrupt sessions

  • Privacy may be harder to maintain in shared living spaces

  • Not all psychological presentations are suitable for telehealth; your psychologist will guide this based on clinical appropriateness

Privacy & Security

We use Zanda Health’s secure, end-to-end encrypted platform, compliant with Australian privacy legislation (Privacy Act 1988, Health Records Act 2001 (Vic)).

Your session will never be recorded. Please ensure:

  • You are in a quiet, private location

  • You use your own device and secure internet connection

  • You are logged in with your name and ready to begin

If Technology Fails

  • We'll switch to an alternative video platform (instructions will be emailed)

  • If problems persist, we may offer a phone consultation

  • If contact cannot be made within 20 minutes, the appointment may be marked as a non-attendance (DNA) and fees may apply

Consent & Choice

  • By proceeding with a telehealth session, you are consenting to this format

  • You can withdraw consent or request in-person care at any time

  • Your psychologist will check in regularly to ensure it continues to meet your needs
